I get really frustrated with people in the pagan/new Age/other woo-woo communities who bitch and moan about how horrible Western medicine is because of various reasons. There are problems with health care, yes, and pharmaceutical companies overcharging and undertesting at times.

But less than…

Let’s not forget this much: Once upon a time (and in many places in the world still today) diarrhea was a death sentence. Now most people consider it a nasty inconvenience. Guess it turns out western notions of medicine and cleanliness are good for /some/thing.

And childbirth… most expectant mothers today aren’t going to having to deal with a considerable chance that they’re going to die. If it wasn’t for modern medicine, I and my mother would have died 20 years ago.
